Recipe: Papa Smurfs Chilli

Recipe: Papa Smurfs Chilli

You asked so here it is, my dads chilli recipe.

This is something I have tried to get my grubby mitts on for years and now I’m sharing it with you.

This is a firm family favourite in our family, everyone who has ever tried it has LOVED it and for so long I only had it pre made and frozen. Whilst we call it Papa smurfs chilli it’s also used for lasagna and Bolognese.

Enough was enough and I NEEDED it to make for myself, I asked my instagram followers if they wanted the recipe and the answer was yes so here goes!

Ingredients.

*Basing this off a meal for 2 people with enough for 4 meals to freeze*

Ingredients:

500g Mince meat (Beef) (I always used reduced fat mince)

1 Tin of chopped tomatoes.

2 Table spoons of Tomato Puree (We used a chilli flavoured one)

1 Large onion diced.

3 gloves of garlic crushed.

5 Chestnut Mushrooms

1 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil

1 Tablespoon of gravy granules

1 Tin of kidney beans in chilli sauce.

Chilli Powder (we used mild)

Mixed Herbs

Worcester sauce

1/2 pint of water.

Method

Warm the coconut oil in a sauce pan before adding the mushrooms, onions and garlic. Cook until they reduce before adding the mince cook through until brown before adding tinned tomatoes and your puree and water, add in a tea spoon of mixed herb and chilli powder. leave on a medium heat with the lid on for 45 minutes.

Take the lid off and spice test your sauce adding more if you like your food a bit spicer! It’s now time to add the gravy granules to thicken your sauce up a bit and add a bit of flavour if your sauce doesn’t need thickening up you can always just add a stock cube for extra flavour! Cook uncovered for 20 minutes.

If you were using this for bolognese or lasagne you are now done!

If you’re making a chilli, now it’s time to add your kidney beans with the sauce and allow to cook for another 15 minutes.

Serve with your favourite chilli sides we only used rice this time but we’re going to be making loaded chips with it next time!

It’s such a simple recipe and so good for a hearty meal that all the family can enjoy!

If you make this recipe I would LOVE to see your images!

Happy cooking
